Melanie's Perennials was started in the 2009 by Melanie Vassallo. An avid gardener for most of her life, Melanie has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the gardening world. Over the past 10 years Melanie has lectured throughout the United States and Canada on various gardening topics. As a contributing author and photographer for "The Daylily: A guide for Gardeners" plus numerous other websites and publications, Melanie has been sharing her vast knowledge of plants with gardeners all over the world.
Melanie Vassallo was born in Hamilton Canada but before she was a year old her family came to New York City. Although many of her childhood summers were spent on a farm in Germany, the majority of Melanie's life has been spent in South Huntington, on the north shore of Long Island. Her mom Carla can often be found helping weed in the garden along with her two daughters who don't weed but are still the joy of Melanie's life.
By Inviting Melanie to come speak to your group, you can be assured that you will be treated to a lively, intelligent presentation punctuated with many humorous anecdotes. You might learn about the time her toddler decided to go skinny dipping during a fancy garden tour or how fresh her last shipment of manure was ("Ma'am, it was in the horse yesterday").
Natural is the key word in Melanie's gardening style and programs. Chemicals and Pesticides are not used in the garden nor are they recommended in any of the programs. Beneficial insects are welcomed here with open arms and wildlife is encouraged to visit. So are you for that matter! Open gardens do happen at times and will be announced on this site.
